Elyse de Waard
Production for ‘ECHO’ and ‘Track and Trace’
ECHO tells the story of the experience of trauma. This film is directed by Lieke Bezemer. With this film, she shows the way trauma feels through beautiful empty landscapes.
Track and Trace makes abundantly clear how important our privacy is and why we should protect it. The creator of this installation is Elianne de Waard. With the use of her own data she takes a look at what could happen if her data fell in the wrong people’s hands. She does this by putting herself and her data in the context of the Second World War.

- Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?
Image makes it easier to broach difficult subjects. In film especially because it is an accessible medium for the viewer. You can also show things in film that are difficult to express in writing.
I think the state of the world can still be improved considerably. That is why I want to make people aware of the problems that are going on in the world through film. So that we can make a difference together.
That is why I like to work on social-minded film projects. For these types of projects, it’s important that the subject is properly researched and that I support the views of the filmmaker myself.
I started my art education as a maker artist. That’s why I have a good understanding of the making process of a short (animation) film as a producer. This means that I can have good discussions with artists about their production process and I can advise them on this.
I prefer to work closely with the artists in smaller teams. To get the most out of the film project, I am convinced that good cooperation is indispensable. As a producer, I want to take good care of my team where a good working atmosphere is paramount. I strive for long-term cooperation with the artists.
My work currently consists mainly of animated short films. But because I want to be multidisciplinary, I choose for my graduation to work differently as a producer.
That is why I worked on a short live-action film (ECHO - Lieke Bezemer) and on an installation (Track and Trace - Elianne de Waard). The short film is about the experience of trauma and the installation is about the importance of privacy.
By stepping out of my comfort zone in this way, I have learned that I find it important as a producer to remain curious. In this way I can continue to develop. - Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?
In 5 years I want to have a well-established network of artists and filmmakers. People with whom I know I can work well and who make beautiful work.
I would like to find projects for them in my production company. Hopefully, social-minded projects will consist of the biggest part of the work that I do. - Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?
The most important thing that I learned in my studies are discipline and perseverance. I believe that these qualities are essential if you want to make a living in the creative sector.
