The Language of the Birds is an atmospheric short film set to the third verse of the poem “The Language of the Birds” from by Richard Siken. In this film I aim to showcase mood-heavy depictions of an age before artificial light and modernity, in the age of early man, and how they used to paint by torchlight to depict the world around them. It is up to the viewer to decide what meaning they interpret, with my personal aim being to create an atmosphere of wonder and mystery.

  1. Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?

The core of my work has always been to create a connection with people. I aim to make work that invites discussion and emotionally touches people and to speak through my work in this ever-diversifying landscape of creators. The most enjoyable part of my process is that it allows me to receive meaningful feedback and discuss themes in varied ways; I integrate themes of queerness, mental health and self-improvement in my work in an often magical setting. My work is animated, but I like to also like to experiment with comics and illustrative work to apply my skills in other fields that allow for visual narrative.

  2. Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?

In five years, I plan to have a varied portfolio and to be working on a long-form comic outside of freelance work. I want to use my skills in a varied manner and hope to make connections with people from various walks of life to enrich my worldview and stories.

  3. Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?

During my study, the most important thing that I learnt was that I should present my work without disclaimers, and to accept feedback from my peers with grace. My work has its own merits and can only improve by hearing input from others.
